Today I told the Minister of my constituent David who recently had his PIP cut and is facing a significant wait for an appeal.

I’m regularly contacted by constituents who have long term and progressive illnesses, who tell me how stressful the assessment process is. Often, their applications have been refused and they have been left with the responsibility of challenging incorrect decisions, and enduring lengthy waits for tribunal hearings, without the support they need and should be entitled to.

When a massive 73% of PIP decisions taken to tribunal are being overturned by judges, it is particularly concerning that locally, the wait for appeals to be heard can be more than a year.

It is abundantly clear that the PIP assessment process is not fit for purpose. There is a shocking and relentless inefficiency and insensitivity that surrounds this broken system, and it is constituents, like David, that are left suffering as a result.
