It was great to have the chance to speak to ITV’s Calendar News about the fight for a better funding deal for our schools.

We urgently need action from the government over this absolutely abhorrent situation. Our schools should not be forced to rely on parent donations, or make impossible choices over reducing staffing or school days.

I’ll keep pressing for schools minister Nick Gibb to meet with local headteachers asap, so they can put across their concerns directly.

Our schools are working hard to make ends meet and are doing a great job despite the pressures – I’ll keep fighting for the funding our schools need and our young people deserve.
