Say NO to Blue Badge Parking Charges at Dewsbury Hospital

From the 1st September the Mid Yorks NHS Trust will start charging disabled blue badge holders to park at it's hospitals including Dewsbury & District Hospital.

Paula Sherriff MP for Dewsbury has launched a campaign to call on the Chief Executive of the Mid Yorks NHS Trust to scrap these unfair charges.

These changes are not fair. Disabled patients often find it much harder to use public transport, and may also have to attend hospital appointments more frequently.

Totally disgusting to penalise a disabled person by charging them to park for a condition that they never asked for in the first place. This is total profiteering by your Trust as if we do not suffer enough without you enhancing the pain. It is bad enough charging anyone to park when they are in a position of visiting for a medical reason or visiting a loved one when they have become ill. Not only is it time to call an end to charging blue badge holders but it is also time to call a halt to car parking charges in general.

It’s not just Dewsbury but HRI and Calderdale as well. If you have certain benefits you get free parking but not a blue badge holder

I am against parking charges at NHS Depts per se but in particularly those who are disabled.

Both my wife and I are disabled my wife has come out of hospital after being in foe 10 days and found it hard keep finding change for the machine

I can understand a parking charge for non disabled people, in order to prevent the car parks from being abused (although perhaps there is an argument regarding the size of the charges). It doesn’t seem to make any sense charging disabled people though. I am sure there are a lot of disabled people that rely on driving to the hospital, and have no choice but to park there. This seems irresponsible to point of becoming cruel.
